Plus price for next year's festival announced

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has revealed the details of a new booking scheme for next year's festival.

As previously reported, Glastonbury stated their intentions to run a deposit scheme for the 2009 festival and now the organiser has confirmed how the system will work.

Festivalgoers who want to purchase tickets for the 2009 event will be able to buy, or reserve them for a £50 deposit, from October 5.

Fans who have previously registered with Glastonbury do not have to do so again, while those who are currently unregistered can sign up from September 1.

Booking lines will open on October 5 at 9am (BST), and registered festivalgoers will have two options - to buy a full weekend ticket at £175 (plus £5 booking fee) or to reserve a ticket at £50 each.

The remaining balance must be paid by February 1, 2009.

In addition, registered ticket-buyers will be able to buy up to six tickets for registered friends and family in a single transaction.

Glastonbury 2009 takes place at Worthy Farm, Somerset, between June 26 and 28.

£180 for the weekend, seem expensive to anyone else?????

Ridiculously expensive, especially as I'm starting uni this october, and thus have no chance of affording this. Let's hope he sees sense and drops the price next time, or he'll have a big empty field come june!

£180?! Come on Eavis - last year you were on about wanting more young people to attend. But that price is shameful, even if it turns out to be the best line-up all summer.

Glastonbury did sell out... just not till the week beforehand as it always used to be before the whole new fence and selling out in 24 hrs and all that jazz.£180 is not unreasonable - I like many others am not happy to see festival prices rise but when you compare it the £170 I paid for Reading this year it seems a damn sight more reasonable...You get fullon entertainment from wednesday morning till the early hours of Monday there is always something to do or see and with so much diversity in what is available it is practically a bargain still. The deposit has been put there so you can pay in installments and not have to worry so much about a big chunk of money in one go - 3 x £60 from 3 student loans will seem like nothing compared with one £180 sum!

they better have a more impressive line-up next year to be so pretentious as to start selling tickets so goddamned early. and I hope to Christ they don't expect us to get our panties in a twist over the likes of Oasis or some shit.

If you actually think about it it is a very reasonable price. Imagine how much you would have to pay to see every band you see at Glastonbury at their own concert. It's only because of previous Festival prices that it seems pricey

This is a silly idea designed to confuse people.

Glastonbury sold out at 2pm on the Friday of the 2008 Festival. I like the £50 deposit scheme, this is good thinking on the part of the Glastonbury organisers. £180 does seem a lot, but in comparison with last year I think it's a £15 increase which was somewhat expected and is around about the same increase of most other festivals for 2009. It is after all the biggest festival of them all, so the price reflects this. Anyway, I attended Glastonbury 2008 and it was absolutely the best, so I'm getting my £50 deposit in there on 5th October.

christ! people are STILL bitching about the line up!! The line up was fantastic, especially on the smaller stages, the main stages are there to bring people in, coincidentally they exactly what they did, bigwillfm summed it up very nicely. But one last time: Glastonbury offers so much more than just the main stages! Go and explore, find some weird and wonderful people and areas, i know its difficult being posers that care about too much mud and how your hair looks while you stand waiting in front of the pyramid stage for he next one hit wonder indie band but for christs sake live a little!

I went to Glastonbury this year and it was absolutely incredible. Glasto is so far beyond any other festivals in Britain its unreal. I went to leeds in 06 and it was great, but if you compare the two Glastonbury comes out top on every level. even if the headliners were bobbins Glasto would still trounce a Carling Weekend. It's fucking Glastonbury! What more do you need to know? Get your name down kids it's well worth the money!

Having been to V, Reading and Glastonbury on many occasions there is only one worth the ticket price and that is Glastonbury. If you are going to a festival to see Girls aloud, then maybe Glastonbury isnt for you even i it was free. If however you are going in the hope that you will be exposed to new music and culture and to see some of the greatest acts of our time then sell your granny to get your Glastonbury ticket, there really is nothing like it.

The price is mental why should we pay for Glastonbury's booking mistakes of this year, this is mental and they need to work out it's putting more people off
