Franz Ferdinand play new songs at Hydro Connect

Franz Ferdinand closed the Hydro Connect Festival last night (August 31) - their only Scottish festival date this year.

The Glasgow band played five new songs as part of their set, which are expected to feature on their forthcoming third album, including potential single 'Ulysses'.

The festival was held in the ground of Inveraray Castle in the Scottish highlands, in muddy conditions.

During his band's set singer/guitarist Alex Kapranos dedicated their 2004 hit 'Take Me Out' to one enthusiastic member of the crowd. "Wow, everyone applaud the man with the bright yellow jacket, he is dancing like a total nutter, this one is for you," he said, much to the fan's delight.

The band ended their set with their traditional closer 'This Fire'.

On the first night of the festival (August 29) Kasabian played a crowd-pleasing set which opened with 'Shoot The Runner' and closed with 'L.S.F.'. They played new songs destined for their third album, including 'Fire', which was met with a feverish response from the crowd.

The second night of the bash (August 30) was closed by Bloc Party. To mark the headlining performance frontman Kele Okereke wore a tartan kilt as a tribute to the Duke Of Argyll, who owns the castle and surrounding grounds.

Opening with recent single 'Mercury', the band played a set full of crowd-pleasing favourites including 'The Prayer' and 'Banquet', with 'Mercury' being the only song they played from their recently-released album, 'Intimacy'.

Glasvegas had attracted an enormous crowd for their afternoon show. Fans sang lyrics back at James Allan and his band, with set-closer 'Daddy's Gone' drawing the loudest singalong.

Before 's headline set on Sunday Sigur Ros played their last festival date of the summer with a euphoric performance on the Oyster Stage. The Icelandic band's brass section wore 'See You Jimmy' hats - a well known Scottish joke hat - for the occasion and received a warm reception from the crowd.

Torrential rain at the festival caused extremely muddy conditions on the site. It took until the end of Elbow's set on Sunday before the rain cleared and blue sky broke through the clouds.

The weather breakthrough came as fans sang along with Elbow's recent single 'One Day Like This', with many cheering the weather change after almost three days of rain.

Manic Street Preachers, Santogold and also played the three-day festival.
