Formed in 2006 by Anand Wilder (guitar), Chris Keating (vocals/keyboards), Ira Wolf Tuton (bass) and Luke Fasano (drums), this New York-based quartet was one of a new wave of world music-influenced US indie bands to gain widespread press coverage in the late 00s. Wilder and Keating had attended Park School in Baltimore with three future members of fellow experimentalists Animal Collective. After relocating to Brooklyn, New York City, they teamed up with Fasano and Tuton and pooled their various musical influences in Yeasayer. Like fellow US upstarts Vampire Weekend, the quartet draws on various ethnic musics in their ambitious blend of indie pop, electronica, and psychedelic rock. Following the release of the excellent single "2080", Yeasayer signed with the Monitor affiliate We Are Free for their debut All Hour Cymbals. Released at the end of 2007, the album easily matched the hype generated by the band's stellar live shows, with an underlying melodicism helping to temper their wilder urges.
