b. Deborah Dyer, Brixton, London, England. Skin rose to prominence on the UK music scene as the lead singer with Skunk Anansie, a punk metal outfit who enjoyed a series of UK hits before petering out at the start of the new millennium. Skin's dramatic stage presence and photogenic looks had always marked her out as the de facto leader of Skunk Anansie, so it was hardly surprising when she signed a solo recording contract with EMI Records. She worked on her debut with acclaimed producer/DJ David Kosten, who is better known for his recordings under the Faultline moniker. Kosten helped add a layer of chilly electronica to the album's more mainstream rock moments, while ex-World Party member and Robbie Williams co-writer Guy Chambers helped compose the sensitive ballad, "Lost". Fleshwounds was released to polite reviews in June 2003.
